Dear visitors, today I will talk about a very relevant topic. In this article I will write all my personal desires, which, in my opinion, are missing in the Yamaha Genos. I really hope that a representative of the Yamaha corporation considers my proposal for the next generation of Yamaha Genos. I am sure that my article will be liked by all my colleagues. You may think that my article is rather long, but i am sure you will find very useful information here. I think that many of you will agree with me. Lets me start....
The Yamaha Genos 2 is already released, you can Buy It Now here...
My personal preferences for New Generation Of The Yamaha Genos 2
Recently I wrote an article - my personal option when yamaha is going to release a New Yamaha Genos 2. If you are interested in this topic, you can read here...
I've been using Yamaha keyboards since the 90s. I have owned a lot of yamaha keyboards since the 90s till now. I had a huge number of Yamaha synthesizers and keyboards. Starting from the legendary DX7, DSR1000, PSR510, PSR630, PSR640, PSR740, PSR2100, PSR9000, Tyros2 and more more.... even PSR7 to modern Yamaha Montage, Yamaha Modx, Yamaha Genos and Yamaha PSR SX900. And I'm a big fan of yamaha keyboards. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is a big fan of yamaha's musical instruments, that's why I decided to share with you my desires which will probably be included in the new generation of the Genos or maybe Genos 2. Whatever it's called Genos 2, Genos+ ,etc. doesn't matter. Since I don't know what the new generation of genos will be called, in my post I will sometimes call it Genos2.
I am one of the lucky owners of this wonderful professional arranger workstation keyboard Yamaha Genos for over 5 years.
Since I always prefer new technologies or advanced products with new features, for me personally, the Yamaha Genos is already a little outdated.
By no means am I implying that Genos is a bad keyboard. Genos is increasingly great and relevant to keyboards, even now, when Korg has already released the new PA5X.
But I think it's time to think about drowning out all competitors and again releasing a new best digital arranger in the world, which was released about 5 years ago and was called Yamaha Genos, and of course it was the best arranger keyboard in the world.
I absolutely agree, in 2017 it was the best arranger keyboard. But it's now 2023, and technology is advancing at the speed of light. And despite the genos major firmware update that was released in 15th November 2019, then a few minor updates, I think it's time for Yamaha Corporation to release the new flagship Genos 2 to strangle competitors in the global market and become the best one again, with more modern needs of today's market.
Moreover, the Korg has recently released a new flagship PA5X and even Ketron announced about new keyboard EVENT. I think this will be an occasion for Yamaha Corporation to think and release the best flagship in the world, which will probably be called the Yamaha Genos 2.
In some forums and groups, I noticed that Yamaha genos users write that Yamaha has already released Yamaha Genos 2 (of course, they means genos v2.0 firmware update), But I can safely say that this is not quite so, and I do not agree with my respected colleagues, because Yamaha Corporation released a major firmware update V2.0 for genos but it's not the same as new Genos 2 or Genos New generation keyboard.
I think that you will agree with me, that all of the following problems and desire bellow are important for actual genos users and for new "GENOS2" new customers .
And so, I won't make you wait long. Perhaps I'll start my personal desire which are missing in yamaha genos but it would be really nice to have all these features in New Yamaha Genos 2.
Display Lift
After using my Yamaha Genos for several years, I can safely say that the display design of the current Genos is very inconvenient to use and I will be happy to explain why.
Yes, I agree, the design of the display is very beautiful and original. But a beautiful design does not mean that using a touchscreen display is convenient to use. Let me explain in more detail why the Yamaha Genos display is not convenient to use.
- When I play music, sometimes I'm using a few keyboards at once. And on top of my genos I use my Modx6. On my double stand my Genos is inserted at the bottom of Modx. And the shadow and proximity of my MODX prevents me from controlling the display of my genos.
- I have a very serious problem with my eyes - I am nearsighted. The Genos display is located quite deep, and this prevents us from seeing small inscriptions well and it becomes more difficult to control the display. I also have a problem with my spine, and it is difficult for me to bend over every time to look at the deep genos display.
- I'm a professional live musician and I play a lot of gigs outside. And especially on sunny days, the display labels are very hard to see. It will be great if yamaha add a setting to adjust the display contrast and brightness.
In my personal option, the display lift of my Tyros Keyboards was much more convenient to use.
Yes, I understand that we we can enable voice guide, i know that we can make font size bigger. But it won't replace DISPLAY LIFT. I was owned a tyros keyboards before. We used Yamaha Tyros 5 with Display lift, and I'm 100% sure, that lot's of users will be agreed with me, that it is it is much more convenient to use than the Genos display. Despite the fact that Genos has a touchscreen and a nice design.
I hope, that Yamaha Corporation will consider to add Display Lift for new generation of Genos2.
Direct Display Video Out
As I said above, recently the Korg released a new flagship korg pa5x. And as we noticed, this keyboard has a direct display HDMI out. I hope, that you agree with me, that it's easy to use without spending extra costs.
I always talking about it everywhere that the Genos is quite an expensive keyboard. I don't think it's hard for a respected Yamaha Corporation to make a direct HDMI video output.
I'm sure many of my colleagues using the Genos in their home or professional studio. Moreover, Yamaha Corporation announced in advertisements that Genos can be used in the studio, at home, in live concerts and so on ... It will just be convenient to use if we connect Genos directly to a large computer monitor or tv.
In my opetion, USB VIDEO OUT can existonly, if we could connect a USB/HDMI multi-touch monitor via USB Port, with the ability to control genos display fully. I think it will make sense.
I have no idea why Yamaha Corporation changed the normal and direct display out to usb on Genos. I'm not sure, but maybe it's just a marketing ploy to sell USB to HDMI adapters for Genos. We all know, that more younger models like Tyros Sries, PSR S Series and even some PSR Series was direct VGA or RCA video out.
Let me explain why is it inconvenient to use USB Display Out on Genos and PSR SX series keyboards:
- First, we take an extra usb port. This means that we just lose one preliminary port for the usb drive
- We pay for Genos quite expensive, and just spend extra money to buy an additional display out adapter
- Although the adapter is small, it may take up extra space in some home studios. Or it just doesn't look very nice when an incomprehensible adapter and cables sticks out in the rear of keyboard.
So, the direct HDMI display out is another one of the important elements that yamaha corporation should consider for the next model "GENOS2". Moreover, in the rear of the Genos there are quite a few empty places to make a small HDMI Video OUT.
USB 3
Like I said before, technology is evolving almost every day. And at the moment, fast file transfer has become one of the important part for a modern people. It will just make our file transfer easier and faster if yamaha consider adding USB 3.0 slot to the new Genos 2. Especially important, in a live playing in the concerts, transfer files faster.
USB Audio Interface
Since the Yamaha Corporation has repeatedly announced the Genos is also Keyboard for Studio, I think it's time to think about a high-quality USB audio interface for a new generation of genos. We all know that this solution already exists on: Yamaha Montage, Yamaha MODX and even on the younger models like Yamaha PSR E463. It is a fact, that the price of PSR E463 more than 10-15 times cheaper than Genos.
It's quite an important solution for professional musicians to record audio and midi directly to DAW quickly and lossless audio in high quality.
I think, that they are also add programable MIDI CC to Sliders and Knobs for new generation of Genos ;)
We are really hope, that Yamaha Corporation will make a new generation of Genos with high quality Multichannel USB Audio Interface like Montage and Modx.
Sample Rate and Bit Depth
Since above I talked about the USB audio interface on the new Genos 2, it is important to have high-quality transmission and recording of audio in the format WAV 4100Hz 16 bit and 48000Hz 24bit with option to choose transfer or recording Audio Format (WAV, MP3), Sample Rate and Bit Depth.
Two Microphone inputs with high quality preamp
I think many musicians have faced similar problem. Sometimes we need to connect 2 microphones on Yamaha Genos, but unfortunately, to connect only 2 microphones, we need to connect a separate device. I don't think it's a huge expense for Yamaha to consider adding second mic input to the Genos 2, especially the Genos is quite expensive and is Yamaha's flagship keyboard.
MIDI 2.0
MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface)
It's not secret that the new midi 2.0 version has a lot of more good features than the old midi data transfer. MIDI technology has been used in keyboard instruments since the 1980s. Surely it has made life easier for a thousand musicians. But finally a new midi 2.0 version came out. This means that it's time to use midi 2.0 on Genos 2 I will write a separate article about midi 2.0 in more detail in the near future, because this is a rather extensive topic. But it will just be a pleasant surprise from the yamaha corporation if they add MIDI 2.0 to new generation of the Genos.
Balanced Outs and Inputs
As I already said earlier, technology is developing very fast. And it's a fact that the audio quality is also growing quite fast year by year. This means that Yamaha should pay attention to the users of the new generation of Genos and make more quality audio Inputs and Outputs for Genos.
I personally use my Genos in a very different area of music. For example: in my recording studio, in live concerts and so on... And when I record audio in my studio or play live, I connect a regular mono jack cable on my Genos or sometimes using dbox device to connect balanced cable. We all know that a connection of regular mono jack cable can't sounds the same quality as connection TRS cable. Especially if we use cables more than 3 meters long with mono jack connection, the loss of audio quality is much degraded. We know, that Korg made a TRS Input/output for PA5X.
I think, that Yamaha Corporation will change all Audio inputs and Outputs of the new generaion of Genos from mono jacks to TRS.
Additional Assignable Pedals Inputs
For quick access additional features, it is very important to have at least 2 additional Assignable Pedals Inputs.
Slot to connect internal MVMe M.2 SSD
And again I have to talk about new technologies. According to my personal investigation, i have noticed that yamaha corporation is adopting new technologies on their synthesizers and digital arranger keyboards rather slowly than another companies. I respect yamaha corporation and highly appreciate their production, but I know that if there is no justified criticism of real users, if there is no competition, there will be no incentive to develop faster and use new technologies.
After all, everything that I wrote in my article, it is clear to everyone that in order to add all these functions and features, Yamaha Corporation will spend quite a lot of money. Of course, I understand that every little new slot, or every program that will be added to the keyboard, it all costs a lot of money. I also understand that if Yamaha uses all the new, cool technologies and specs, it won't hurt for the company to come up with new ideas to use in new releases. Of course, we all understand that this is just a marketing ploy to add some interesting features with each release or update in order to attract many, many new customers.
Many of my musical colleagues criticize me. They say that I demand a lot and that a Synthesizers or Arranger Keyboards is not a computer, it is not a smartphone and should not evolve so quickly. But I do not agree with these thoughts. Why ? Because everything in the world is evolving. We must always move forward and come up with something new, regardless of the person's age. That's why each of us should do something cool and new in our field, as expected from Yamaha's side.
But there are some important problems and solutions that should not be artificially pulled, because it prevents modern musicians from creating the high quality music that the 21st century requires. And one of those important components is: adding a new internal slot M.2 SSD to Genos 2
Why M.2 SSD internal slot important for Genos? - And again, it's about extremely fast file transfer, or just using the files in keyboards much more faster. Strangely enough, even in yamaha tyros 2 was possible to add an external hard drive. Why not add an internal M.2 SSD slot to Genos 2 ?
Multipads Improvement
This is a highly anticipated feature that Yamaha Corporation should consider on the new Genos generation. Starting from the old PSR series from the 90's to the Genos that was produced in 2017 Yamaha did not make a drastic change on multipads. Yes I agree they made some minor changes, they added more quality midi multipads, they also added an "AudioLink" on multipads. If I'm not mistaken, the "Audio Link" was added starting from the Yamaha PSR S950 / PSR S750 to Genos 1. To be honest, I think Multipad Audiolink is underdeveloped feature. Which needs serious improvements from Yamaha Corporation.
Now I will describe what important changes the multipad needs in my personal opinion:
Multipad Audiolink
First of all, I want to note that this is a pretty good and important feature for Yamaha keyboards. But I think this feature needs a major improvements. What I would like to see in the new updated Multipad Audiolink?
- The first and especially important function that is missing in the multipad is Audio File Synchrostart with the Style. Yes, I understand that in some cases the tempo of the style and the audio of the multipad can be different, since an audio file and a midi file are completely different files, and of course there is no midi information in the audio file in order to play the track at the same tempo with midi. I also fully understand that it is possible that the key of the audio file may differ from the style that the musician will play. But when Yamaha created this feature, he thought that each musician would create their own individual audio file to play it to a specific song. And each musician should calculate the tempo and key of the music. And so, I'm sure that the synchrostart of the audio multipad will be one big step for each Genos user.
If you've watched quite a few demos from famous yamaha demonstrator Peter Beerams, you may have noticed that in one of the live videos where Peter Beerams introduced the Yamaha PSR SX900, he pressed the multipad button (audiolink) with a little delay, and vocal of the audiolink multipad plays with a delay. If I'm not mistaken, this live video was recorded in Vietnam. I presented this example because even such a professional, official representative and demonstrator Peter Beerams did not have time to click on the multipad button in the correct time. I confirm with confidence that the lack of a sync start in the audiolink of the multipad is a fairly common problem. Hope, Yamaha will fix this problem in the next updates. - Saving the Audio Multipad in onboard memory of the Genos is also missing. Of course, it is also important function. Very often we need to save Audio Multipad (WAV, REX) in keyboard directlly. I think this feature is also should be updated by Yamaha. It is also will not interfere if we could save Audio Multipad in format REX/WAV by using Yamaha Expansion Manager.
- Loop, Effects (EQ, Compressor, Reverb Delay etc...), Cut, Copy and full Audio multipad editing is also important point for Audiolink. All these important features are missing from the audio multipad, which will help us play audio multipad more functionally.
- In today's music industry, audio playbacks is very important. 16 buttons for multipads will be an important update to make a new Genos users life easier. This is a highly anticipated feature that is missing on Yamaha Arranger Keyboards. In the modern world, 4 pads are very few to play audio playbacks. If Yamaha adds this feature to the new Genos 2, it will be a pleasant surprise for all users. I really hope that the new 16 pads will be multi-touch (Velocity sensitive), with the ability to enable and disable the multi-touch function if necessary. Especially when korg pa5x already has this ability.
Saving Audio and MIDI by Choosing File Location
When we record Audio or MIDI Song on the Genos, the OS will not allow us to choose the directory to save the recorded file. For example, we want to save the recorded file to USB Flash Drive or to another location, but genos automatically save it to internal memory. Than we should copy the recorded file from Genos internal memory and save it to USB. It will be great if in the new generation of Genos we will be able to select the location of the recorded AUDIO/MIDI file on the quick recording page.
Full Piano Roll for Styles, Multipads and Songs Creator
For many decades, Yamaha has been using the old multipad, style and song creator. Yes, I know they added a few minor features. But I think you will agree with us that step editing a song, style and multipad is outdated. Korg and Roland have been using the Piano roll for a long time. Isn't it time to move to a full edit of styles and songs in a piano roll like Cubase?
32 Midi Parts / Tracks
As always, we lack tracks that we write a song or play music. I know that many of you will say that a professional musician can write music down to 5-6 tracks. I agree with this idea, but not entirely. Let me explain why:
- Not all genos players are professional musicians.
- It solely depends on the music genre, how many tracks you will be using. (For example: In symphonic music and even for some pop musics can be used more than 32 tracks)
- If we will have a 32 tracks, we could always have a supply to use 8 track style + for example 8 tracks right hand layers + additional multipads for live music...and so on...
And so, 32 AUDIO/MIDI track for Song, Style, Multipad and additional tracks for right hand parts will be great idea.
Sustain Pedal, for Style Creator
I think many of you have noticed that there is no sustain pedal entry in the Style Creator. I don't know why yamaha disabled this feature in style creator, but I think it could also be an important update if we could record the sustain pedal in Style Creator.
Multi Effects, EQ and Compressor for Each Style Tracks
In modern music, correct sound processing is one of the important factors for musicians and listeners. I think it's important to be able to mix every custom style tracks one by one by, using Parametric EQ, Compressor, and Effects. If it is a drum track, it is important to mix every drum parts separately.
It will be cool if yamaha gives us the opportunity to use EQ, Compressor and Different Effects with minimum 3 inserts for every tracks of style. It will be a new big step to make high quality custom styles for Yamaha Genos. It would also be great if we could use EQ, Compressor and Effects for each drum part separately. I understand very well that this will eat a lot of processor and RAM resource of the keyboard. But I think that Yamaha is well aware that this is a rather expensive instrument and it must meet all modern standards.
Another important feature, is the using Side-Chain Compression for style and song channels and also using Side-Chain effect for right parts.
Glue Compressor and Master limiter
This feature applies to the master section of the Yamaha Genos. High quality Master Limiter and Glue Compressor for the master section is very important especially for those musicians who plays live concerts. It will also be useful for those who write music to share on the Internet.
We all know that high quality music processing becoms very important day by day, and for musicians to be able to compete, it is equally important to have quality sound.
It also doesn't hurt to have a high quality multi-channel parametric EQ on the master channel of Genos.
Expansion Memory Size
Based on internet resources like forums, groups and music sites, this is a highly anticipated feature that Yamaha Corporation should consider.
It is also my personal opinion and as I have gone through many years of experience using Genos, I can say for sure that even after updating the expansion memory of the Genos from 1.8GB to 3.0GB, still not enough to create high-quality sounds. Since genos is considered the flagship arranger of Yamaha, I think the new Genos 2 (or new generation of the genos) should have at least 8gb or 16gb expansion memory size. Perhaps in 2017 for some users 1.8GB or in 2019-2022 3GB was acceptable expansion memory size, although for me personally it was not enough even in 2017. In my option, even today 16 GB expansion memory is very small size. But i wont be too greedy and if yamaha corporation will use 16gb expansion memory for new Genos 2, I will be grateful. I am sympathetic to this, since these microchips are very expensive, but it shouldn't be one sided, our esteemed friend yamaha should also respect us as a customer and accept the customer's requirement, since we pay quite a lot of money for genos
It will be also great idea, if we will have an opportunity to make/save/use expansion packs directlly on keyboard without installation.
So you can save your samples on Korg keyboards directlly. Why not think about doing the same on a yamaha genos keyboard? Moreover, Yamaha Corporation already has this experience on Yamaha MONTAGE and MODX.
New Voice and Styles
It's no secret that with each new release, from Tyros to Genos, Yamaha Corporation Improves Sound Quality and Adds New Styles. I have no doubt that in the new Genos 2 they will add a lot of new S.Art2 Voices and new high quality styles. It will be also great, if Yamaha add a New Revo Drums, El.Pianos and DX pianos from Montage.
It would also be a great idea if yamaha would use FM-X and AWM2 sound engines technology in the next Genos 2 , like on Montage and Modx.
Adding a new Retro Pop, Jazz, Latin, Movie, Free Play styles will be great!
I know, now many of musicians will once again criticize me and say that Genos is not a synthesizer, and should not have a lot of sound settings. But agree with me that Genos is an expensive and professional arranger, and should present as much customization as possible.
Smooth Sound Transition (SST)
Smooth Sound Transition which allows switching between sounds, registrations and OTS (One Touch Settings); without breaking off the effects.
I believe that fixing this issue is extremely important. Almost all yamaha arrangers have had this problem for decades. I have no idea why Yamaha doesn't fix this problem? Moreover, this problem has existed for many years. I don't think that yamaha engineers are not able to solve this problem. Or do they just not want to confuse their heads? Because I do not think that this is due to the company's marketing for the better.
I really hope yamaha will take this issue as notice from 1000s of Yamaha Arranger Keyboard Users and will fix it for future arrangers.
Multy Layers For Right Parts (Voice Select)
Maybe my wish will seem too incredible, but there are some important options that I just can't stop talking about. Yes, we all know what Genos is allowing us to layering one voice for Left Part, and R1 + R2 + R3 for right hand part. In my personal experience, it would be great if we could layer at least 8 voice for Right Hand Part.
Drum Edit improvment
Now, when we make a new song on Yamaha Genos, we often face the problem of changing/editing the drum sounds individually in a song, as it is organized in the style drum edit. I think it will be great if we can create/save voices, with a selection of drums from different waveform of Drum Kits than use it on Styles and/or Songs. It will also be very useful to add the function of reversing an individual drum of the drum kit, and also reverce any voice for right part. This is also a pretty important feature that is missing on Yamaha Genos.
2 Style Players
For me, this feature is not very important. But having a 2 style player processor on the new generation of genos, as Korg added this feature to PA5X would be nice to use.
Arrow buttons to control all display items
I think a lot of musicians have MODX or Montage, and many of you have noticed that these synthesizers have arrows to control all menu items (the photos will be attached bellow). It is very convenient for me to control the all functions faster of my modx, and I think it will be great if Yamaha considers these control buttons in the new Genos 2.
Additional Buttons
I don't know why Yamaha doesn't add track control buttons like On/Off, Mute/Solo under sliders. But for many users it will be convenient to control the tracks of a style faster, song or multipad more conveniently than we do it on the touchscreen by pre-clicking multiple menus.
I understand that they want to use as few buttons as possible. But there are some functions that are simply not convenient to use without physical buttons.
In addition, it would also be nice to have a buttons DSP (Digital Signal Processor), MONO/LEGATO Touch, Fade In/Out and Chord looper on New Genos like on Old Yamaha Keyboards. Now many of you will say that there is an 6 + 1 Assignable buttons for it. But we could use these 6 Assignable buttons for any additional purpose.
Automatic Style Recommender
For me personally, this feature is not critical. But I think it will be a nice addition for many other Genos 2 Users. How can this work if yamaha corporation decides to add this feature to genos 2? Easy! - We can play any audio file on our smartphone, The Genos 2 will listen it and will choose correct style for this music. Or we can just play any rithmic part on the keyboard, than Genos will choose the style for us. If I'm not mistaken, there was a similar function was on older PSR S series, but I was not able to find it on genos and SX series. If I'm wrong please excuse me.
Automatic Chord Finder (Chord Tracker)
I think it will be one more step to have chord tracker feature in the new genos os. Many of us know about Android and IOS App Chord Tracker, but it would be great to have this on genos keyboard directlly. So we can also track chords of audio file and save chords as Chord Looper directlly on genos.
Wireless / Bluetooth
So, we come to another one of the most important elements that is missing on Genos. Portability and fast audio transmission has become a very important element in today's music. As we already know, bluetooth connectivity has been added in the PSR SX-900. But yamaha genos does not have it. Yes, i know, that we can use WiFi connection, but using bluetooth connection would be a great idea for a new genos 2.
In addition, I would like to suggest one more important element. I think yamaha corporation should consider creating a new application on app store and google play to connect it with Genos by using wireless and control the Genos fully by using app. For example you can control audio and midi on genos, make more than 8 or 16 voice layers for right part, create styles, songs, multipads, create video and share it on Social Media like Youtube and so on....
Portamento & Legato
Newly added Crossfade Portamento with velocity and time related parameters. Transition speed and velocity of following notes are editable, allowing smooth, expressive transitions between successive notes.
I think everyone will doubtlessly agree if Yamaha adds Portamento like PSR A5000 to new Genos 2.
Arpeggio improvement
I have 2 suggestions to improve the arpeggios on the new generation of genos.
- Adding all arpeggios from Yamaha Montage to Yamaha Genos2
- Make hold button or OS menu item to hold arpeggio part when the HOLD Function is ON.
Programmable RGB LEDs for Buttons
This is not a very important update, but it will be just nice to program the color of the buttons manually.
Assignable Touch Strip controller
Yamaha montage has touch pitch band/modulation (Assignable Touch Strip controller) and it will be really great idea to add programable Assignable Touch Strip controller on Genos New Generation with fully editable menu item. I think the Yamaha corporation is not far behind the competition, because Korg has been using it for a long time on their flagship PA arranger keyboards.
Unision & Accent Function
The Unision & Accent is a wonderful and very useful feature, that is missing on the Genos but is available on Yamaha PSR SX600. This function allows you to play music on your keyboard with more details.
The powerful Unison & Accent function gives you expressive flexibility of Style control. With the Unison function turned on, you can play a melody and have it reproduced simultaneously (i.e., the same melody is played by multiple instruments) or tutti (i.e., all parts are played at the same time) like passages in songs such as "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder, or "I Feel Good" by James Brown.
With the Accent function turned on, accents are automatically generated by adding rhythmic "shots" to Style playback by striking the keys a little harder.
I'm sure yamaha corporation will add this great feature to new Yamaha Genos 2.
Direct Firmware Update From Internet
At the moment, in order to update the firmware of Yamaha Genos and PSR SX series, we have to complete some complicated operations. For example: Download firmware update from official Yamaha's website, extract the downloaded archive, save it to USB Flash Drive and install an update on the keyboard.
For more advanced users, this is easy to do. But we know perfectly well that Yamaha Genos is used not only by advanced users. This musical instrument is used by very different categories of people. I think that we all noticed that these musical instruments are also very useful for pensioners. I'm sure for a lot of people, it's just very difficult and risky to update firmware of the keyboard.
That's why I think it can be easier to update the operating system of keyboards. This can be simplified to just one click of a button or touch just update menu item, than keyboard firmware will be updated automatically directlly drom internet by connecting WiFi Network.
Post comments bellow if you agree or disagree with my proposals
Yamaha Expansion Manager (YEM) Major UPDATE
For several years I have read in various forums that users are not satisfied with the functionality and optimization of YEM. Soon I will write a separate article about this topic in more details. But here I will describe just some minimal but important elements that are missing on Yamaha Expansion Manager.
- In my mind, the YEM is not optimised, and it is working very slow, especially when importing and exporting files. I have a fast computer at the moment with i7 Cpu, 32GB ram, M.2 SSD, but even on my computer, the Yamaha Expansion manager working slower. Especially if we generate Expansion Packs.
- Creating Folders/Categories for Voice and Style Expansion Packs are missing on Yamaha Expansion manager. For example we want to make voice categories like: Pianos, El.Pianos, Guitars, Strings etc...., but Yamaha Expansion manager does not allow us to create folders in Expansion Pack.
- About editing the voices I will write another detailed article, but here i can assure yamaha corporation, that make a fully editable custom S.Art2 voice on Expansion manager can be Great Update for Yamaha genos New Generation
- Missing all Effect of Arranger Keyboards. There are only some legacy effects.
- Adding SF2 Sounds in the Elements parts are missing
- It will be great idea, if YEM will support Native Instruments Kontakt NKI files. I do not means suppoirting a new kontakt instruments with GUI. There are old kontakt NKI file, like soundfonts sf2, and it can be easly used on YEM.
- Editing and Mixing all onboard voices are missing on Yamaha Expansion Manager. If you connect the Genos to YEM via USB, you can edit some of onboard voices but not all
I can talk about the cons of this program endlessly, but today's article is not about this program. Someday I will write a separate article in detail, and I really hope that representatives of the Yamaha Corporation will read my article. My articles may help them improve Yamaha products. Although I doubt it, because they know better than us about all the limitations of musical instruments and software. In short, it's just marketing
Metalic top panel
I do not talk about all yamaha Arranger keyboards, but in my mind Yamaha Genos new Generation should be maked with beter material and keyboard. And metal/aluminum body for expensive genos will be just the right way. I know now many of you will say that the weight of the instrument will be heavy with a metal body. But I assure you that with the right finish, the weight of the keyboard will not differ by more than 1-2KG (as an exmaple you can check Korg PA5X 76 and genos weight ).
In addition, I want to say that the standard plastic power supply in Genos is just a mockery
Rec'n'Share App
Rec'n'Share allows you to record audio and video along with songs from your music library and then share your performances with the friends, family, and fans on Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, etc!
This application works with younger yamaha models, like: PSR SX600. but missing on genos. When viewed on different social networks, there are millions of videos that people play live music and share it. If yamaha corporation adds this feature to the new generation of genos, it will simply simplify life and save time for a thousands musicians.
Genos 2 Different Size
In my groups and forums with 1000s of Yamaha keyboard Users, people are discussing a lot about the fact that Yamaha should release Genos with 88 Keys with hammer action, 76 Keys and 61 Keys. For me personally, this is not critical, but I just represent the opinion of thousands of users. I personally prefer 88 and 61 keyboards ;)
Official Video Instructions
I think yamaha corporation makes very few video instructions for all Digital Arranger Keyboards. Please take attention that they mostly make videos only about new features and options of new Keyboards. Not all yamaha keyboard users are advanced. I'm sure, that a lot of Yamaha Keyboard Users need official video with full Step-By-Step instructions.
Summary
I understand, that my post was take your some time. But I think it's worth it to present all the possible problems and shortcomings of the genos that the yamaha corporation should consider and add in new generations of genos, or it doesn't matter what they will call the new flagships: Genos+, Genos2, Genos II, Genos 3 or something else. The main thing is that they read this article and gradually add all my recommendations on new flagship arranger keyboards.
I am sure that Yamaha Corporation will accept my justified criticism as a friendly offer.
I think my article will be relevant for a long time to come, if even the new generation of Genos will be released. Why ?
If Yamaha Corporation adds all these features and capabilities to Genos 2, it will be an explosion in the global market and no any company can compete with Yamaha.
But we all know, that almost all my suggestions are more like a dream than a reality
It's easy to understand that most of of my above mentioned wishes maybe we don't see in the next release of genos in the near future.
But I really hope that Yamaha Corporation will gradually add all these desires in the next updates and releases time by time.
If I will have new requirements for New Genos 2, I will definitely add it to this article.
Thank you all for taking the time to read my article. If you have any other suggestion, you can email us or take a take comment bellow, I will gladly to consider all your comments, and I will add the most interesting comments in this article as requirements for NEW GENOS2...

И объём встроенной памяти должен быть не просто больше в разы. Должна быть возможность работать с внешним накопителем. YEM конечно далеко не образец удобства и простоты.
Yamaha should ask you and us a wishlist before launching a new product.
Thanks

Yamaha need to put the print inside the buttons etc as their screen printing is terrible for a £5000 keyboard.
They could leave buttons blank and print on the keyboard like the Pax5.
That is my biggest moan with Yamaha.
I would like to see a decent software style maker even if we have to pay for it.
Seamless switching is a must plus sound improvement on Guitars Strings and Brass. The saxes are great though.
I am a musician guitar and bass- and I am not a good pianist but I do complex arrangements with Step recording Chord which only works with the Preset Styles. Big problem to modify in a new model of Genos.
In conclusion Genos is the best arranger on the market since 20 years. I am waiting for the new model with great anxiety. Regards.
76 - 88 keys
Many problem and solutions of feature of Yamaha Genos, PSR, Tyros, Clavinova, Synthesizer (MONTAGE/MODX/MO/MOTIF/MM/MX/RACK) and XG Generator are not in the Genos. So i am initiated to add all of features to next Genos 2 series
My opinion of additional voices and styles of PSR and some older keyboard models should be added and accepted:
• AN-X voices engine
• DX and TX voices engine
